Earthdog

Den Trials and Earthdog tests are an important element that Dave and Lynn  concentrate on in their breeding program.  In the early 1990's the Nieburs were  introduced to the sport of go-to-ground hunting with Dachshunds and small  working terriers. Below are links to the AKC and AWTA sites that explain in  detail the history and reason that these inherant skills are so important in  having an all around working Dachshund.

Lynn and Dave both are AKC Earthdog judges and were very involved in the developement and hosting with  their local Dachshund Club, GPDC, the very first AKC Earthdog Test weekend in  the United States in October of 1994. (See Gazette article at AKC Earthdog  history page at link provided).

Many Niebur Dachshunds have earned AWTA  Den Trial and AKC Earthdog titles over the years.  It is a fun and exciting even  to participate in with your Dachshund. Not as strenuous as AKC Field Trials or  Basset Club of America Hunt Tests, earthdog tests and den trials are a great way to experience the thrill of watching your Dachshund exhibit a natural instinct  to go-to-ground and work quarry in a safe environment for both the dog and the  quarry used.
