Monday, the day before Westminster.....
We all got to sleep-in today
and laze around all morning catching up on rest and relaxation. I decided to skip shopping and exploring the Big Apple and stay quiet with the dogs at the hotel. Mac and April and I went for a nice long walk while the maid cleaned the room. The sun was out and even though there was drifts of snow everywhere we had a wonderful time chasing pigeons and finding snow drifts to pee on. I noticed a man leaning face forward against a wall of a building we were walking by and thought he looked weird and then realized he was looking for a snow drift too...hmm New York City and all of it's oddities. It's interesting to realize that people live in this city full time. I can't imagine trying to walk dogs who have to go to the bathroom on the sidewalk all of the time. It seems that wherever there might be a bush or a tree, someone has put up a wrought iron fence around it to keep the dogs off. Even in the parks. When we got back to the room the maid wasn't quite finished so we waited in the hall and listened to the wind
blow up and through the elevator shafts.
The rest of the afternoon I rested with the dogs waiting for the girls to return. We were going to
meet for dinner at a restaurant called Seredipities where the Dachshund Club of America Juniors competing at Westminster would be celebrated. This restaurant is located on Times Square and is
noted for it's wonderful desserts. As the afternoon wore on I started to feel kind of sick to my stomach and in need of staying close to home. I think now it was a bad
case of nerves and stress before the big day, but at the time I thought it was a touch of the flu I had a couple of days before leaving for New York coming back to haunt me.
In the end the girls went to Seredipities, Carrie went out to dinner with Aunt Cathy and her Uncle Jim to a
restaurant owned by Martha Stewarts favorite chef. The
dogs and I stayed relaxing and watching Olympics until the crew got home. When we went to bed I realized that Mac had eaten my ear plugs and it turned out to be a very restless, sleepless night before our turn on the Green Carpet.............
